Welcome to fifth grade at Chouteau Elementary. We're honored to have your child in our classrooms this year! We know that we will have a successful, fun, and productive year. We look forward to being a part of the academic progress your child will make.
Your child will find that we are tough but fair. We have extremely high academic and behavioral expectations for our scholars. We expect EVERY scholar will learn to the best of his or her ability and will achieve in one year more that they ever thought possible.
Because you are an integral part of your child’s education, we feel that home / school communication is of vital importance. We hope to talk with parents / guardians of each of my scholars in the coming weeks. We would like to extend and invitation for you to contact any of us at any time. We can be reached at school (816) 321-5050 or via email at [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]. If you would like to speak in person, we are always available to schedule appointments before, after school, or during our planning period (9:30-10:30 A.M.). Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
We will constantly emphasize three expectations in our classrooms:
In addition, we would like your child to be a curious learner, ask questions, and be an active participant in classroom discussions and activities. We will also help scholars learn to be increasingly independent as the year progresses. Scholars who show independent work habits will be able to become “teaching assistants” for other students in our rooms, use special materials, and have other special privileges. Our goal is for ALL scholars to become independent learners.
Scholars will receive grades based on a total points possible percentage.
There are many ways you can help your child succeed in 5th grade. Ask your child what he or she learned in school each day. This simple routine will help them review and find holes in their understanding. Emphasize the importance of homework and hard work and monitor if your child is finishing their homework each night. We have a 100% homework policy across 5th grade. Please help your child establish a regular time and place (far away from the TV) to complete their homework. Also praise them for doing well….they deserve it! We look forward to working with you and your scholar!
